Yale New Haven Health names Steven Choi, MD as chief quality officer

New Haven, CT (Sept. 20, 2018) – Yale New Haven Health (YNHHS) and Yale Medicine have named Steven Choi, MD to serve as their inaugural chief quality officer. In this new role, Dr. Choi will be responsible for developing and overseeing the implementation of a common safety and quality agenda across all inpatient and ambulatory Yale Medicine and Yale New Haven Health sites.

Dr. Choi previously served as the Montefiore Health System assistant vice president, Montefiore Network Performance improvement director and Montefiore Institute for Performance Improvement executive director. Dr. Choi was instrumental in the development of an integrated performance improvement plan for the health system and improved performance against publicly reported quality indicators.

“Dr. Steven Choi brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Yale New Haven Health and Yale Medicine,” said Thomas Balcezak, MD, chief medical officer, YNHHS. “Health systems across the country work harder, closer and more intently than ever to understand the challenges patients and those that care for them face each day. In this new role, Dr. Choi will work closely with the local delivery networks, the YNHHS chief medical officer, medical directors as well as other safety and quality leaders to ensure the successful execution of our unified safety and quality vision.”

Dr. Choi obtained his medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, completed pediatric residency training at Columbia University/Babies and Children’s Hospital of New York and a critical care fellowship at University of Southern California School of Medicine/Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Dr. Choi lives in Westport with his wife Elizabeth and their three children. He enjoys skiing, paddle boarding, running and is an avid football fan.
