Mind-Body Technique Reduces Stress, Helps with Surgery

Are you facing surgery, a medical procedure, or just want to learn a relaxation technique?  A program available at The Westerly Hospital has been clinically proven to promote healing, help patients use less pain medications, and reduce anxiety.  Join Christine Gentry, a registered nurse specially trained in holistic therapies, at The Westerly Hospital Nardone Conference Center on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, from 5:00-6:00 p.m. to hear about and sample this helpful mind-body technique.

The program is recommended at hospitals across the country and a research study at Harvard Medical School teaching hospital showed that that hospitalized patients who used the program had less pain, fewer complications, and recovered sooner.  The program can be used to prepare for any type of medical procedure including chemotherapy, biopsy, endoscopy, cardiac catheterization, or MRI.

A guide and relaxation CD are available for purchase through The Westerly Hospital’s Gift Shop located on the first floor of the hospital.

The Westerly Hospital also offers a number of complementary therapy services for inpatients including:  Acupuncture, Guided Imagery, Pet Therapy, Reiki, and a Spiritual Support/Chaplaincy Program.

The Prepare for Surgery, Heal Faster™ program is free and open to the public. To register, click here or call 401-348-2300, or, from outside RI, call 800-933-5960 ext. 3423.  Please leave a message with your name, phone number, and program for which you are registering.  You will automatically be registered in the program.
